Red Crescent Society of Uzbekistan is the oldest humanitarian organization that was founded in 1925 and received the status of independent humanitarian voluntary association in 1992 in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On the Red Crescent Society of Uzbekistan", which in general represented a new stage in the development of charitable and humanitarian activities. Today the Red Crescent Society of Uzbekistan is the 165th full member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which unites 187 National Societies worldwide. During the years of independent development a strong charitable legal basis has been established in Uzbekistan, rights have been significantly strengthened and the range of organizations’ potential focusing mainly on comprehensive assistance to those who need such assistance has been extended.
The purpose of activities of the Red Crescent Society of Uzbekistan is to assist in implementing key priorities of social policy. At first it is a set of measures to protect the most vulnerable people. For this aspect the Society has done a lot of work, including specific activities to avoid spreading of different diseases, to prevent and treat them, to assist in disasters recovery, as well as to solve problems of vulnerable people, seniors living alone, large needy families, people with disabilities and others who need a support and assistance.
The past records of the Red Crescent Society of Uzbekistan have many examples of comprehensive care to the population, and thereby the organization could present a positive self-image and deservedly has authority with society. In their noble work our staff and volunteers always committed to fundamental principles of International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, including humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary, unity and universality. We deeply appreciate and are grateful to all members, partners and volunteers of the Society for their contributions to humanitarian and charitable activities of the Red Crescent Society of Uzbekistan. Today, our organization has about 1 million 300 thousand members and over 38,000 volunteers across the country.
At the same time, to ensure the continued effective implementation of comprehensive work, it is important to consider new human challenges and threats. The Society in its work tries to draw public attention to the needs and demands of people through forming a sense of mercy and humanity within the youth and population, as well as a sense of compassion and desire for everyone to do the best he can for the other people.
Today the Red Crescent Society of Uzbekistan has significant potential and qualified personnel for solving such tasks as a rapid response to emergencies and natural disasters, training people to provide the first aid, provision of health and social care services, humanitarian assistance, uncompensated donation. Establishment of youth movement and voluntary primary organizations of the Society, implementation of international projects and development of international cooperation in the humanitarian field represent a significant priority in our work.
We have sufficient capacity, including financial and human resources, to support assigned objectives. Moreover we have branches and offices almost in each region, city and district of the country. Any citizen of the republic, regardless of his/her ethnic, social and religious identity, is eligible to become a member of the Red Crescent Society of Uzbekistan and to make their own contribution to the prosperity of our country.
